It does not do to dwell on dreams

Strange - I'm not used to being noticed
I sit him down, I talk it through
I end things simply with “I like you”
Though weak right then, I try to grin
He smiles back, then he says, “Gin,
I couldn't show it, not in front of Ron
Or Fred or George; sure, you're withdrawn
But please don't think you're out of sight
I'm not surprised, though, because you're right
I'll always try from now on to spend
More time with you because you're a friend
But as you said, we're so much more
It feel it too – right to my core,”
And then he swore, his faced etched plain
I'd never have reason to doubt him again
All that's been said, so many times
I hear it often play out in my mind
I'm a silly girl, I'm a foolish prat
He's the Boy Who Lived, and I think that
I've given him cause to look my way
To say things I wished to Merlin he'd say?
I've cried so much, not that anyone sees
Ron's with Harry, he's never with me
And Fred and George are good for a laugh
But what I'm feeling – I hold that back
As for Percy, I'd rather die
Than tell him how often I've cried
None of the girls in my year have tried
To reach out at all, though to be fair, I hide
I rarely speak, and when I do, no one hears
So I might be a stupid girl, but I won't force my fears
Onto anyone; if that got back to my brothers
I know I'd never hear the end of it from my mother
But I'm certain, I know it won't come down to that
Because I have my quill, and I can't be a prat
To someone like Tom because he takes the time
To understand me, it's like he reads my mind
There's only him, but I can't complain
He's ever so kind, and I never strain
With coming up with new things to say
And he wants to listen – every day
About my feelings, about my brothers
About Harry, how I feel smothered
My second-hand robes, my books torn and tattered
Frayed in the bindings, my heart that's been shattered
So I'm not alone, it's not as bad as before
And I don't have to suffer, no, not anymore
Because though Ron and Harry have their own friends
I suppose I do too, and it's not even pretend
With Tom at my side and a quill in my hand
I'll get by each day, even the days dark or bland
Maybe they'll keep acting like I don't exist
But I'm over that now, the answer to my wish
Is right here in my hands; I smile, and turn to a page
Writing to Tom lets me out of this cage
So I scribble a bit about being tired and strained
About paint down my robes and spiders acting strange
About Mrs. Norris and the words that were written
So brightly on the wall, about how I think that I did them
The mysterious feathers, Hagrid's roosters gone missing
Something doesn't feel right, I sometimes hear hissing
And the world is spinning – I'm not getting enough sleep
And it's more than that, Tom, I feel so weak
My brothers say I'm peakish, but something more's wrong
And he listens, and replied, “I'm sure it won't last long”
So maybe I'm confused and my life's falling apart
But I'll try to sleep well with Tom clutched to my heart
And though I've more than once woken in a cold sweat
From nightmarish images of bathrooms and pets
I'll always have him, I scribble into the night
Because like Tom says, things will be alright
